Amanda reflects experiences of her travels through the rural and urban environment in her imagery, noticing and collecting fragments of things seen.

She makes paper, fabric and mixed media assemblages which record the process of selecting, fragmenting, layering and recombining her observations, memories and rambling experiences.

WORKSHOP DETAILS

Information about the day

You will learn about abstraction, the visual elements and how to work in a ‘series’ by making a number of paper and mixed media collage arrangements that encourage a focus on using the visual elements, shape, colour, texture, tone, line and pattern. Numerous papers and surfaces will be provided for you to start the collage/decollage processes, and it will be even better and more personal for you, if you bring a collection of your own to add your own twist. There will be a demonstration on taking rubbings from textured surfaces and making ink drawings onto tissue paper.

The process of working in a series will be fun, it’s also a challenging activity that is enlightening when you finalise your arrangements. Free and experimental approaches to cutting, tearing, positioning, and attaching/fixing will be supported by traditional skills in using media effectively.

You can expect to set up and start at least 5 collages, you may refine up to two or three of these with additional refinement layers.
