Bringing an urban scene to life in Oils

Roger is a self-taught professional figurative artist and teacher, born in St Albans, Hertfordshire and working in oils, pastel, mixed media, acrylics and water-based media. His interest is in observing people in their environment and capturing light effects.
A member of Royal Institute of Oil Painters ,Royal Institute of Watercolours , Associate of the Royal Society of Marine Artists and the Pastel Society ,Chelsea Art Society he has also exhibited at many venues including RA, RSMA, NEAC, RBA, RWA and in the Singer & Friedlander/Sunday Times Watercolour Competition.
Roger has had several solo shows and is represented in America by the Peninsula Gallery, Lewes, Delaware. He holds a City & Guilds Teaching Certificate, demonstrates to art societies and teaches at his Nutcombe Hill Studio, in Hindhead, Surrey, and widely elsewhere.

TITANIUM WHITE, CADMIUM YELLOW HUE
CADMIUM YELLOW PALE, CADMIUM YELLOW DEEP
SCARLET LAKE, PERMANENT ROSE
ULTRAMARINE, CERULEUM BLUE
COBALT BLUE HUE, BURNT SIENNA
I use Winsor and Newton Winton range, alternatively you could use Winsor and Newton Artisan water soluble oils.
Mediums.
ZEST IT as a flow medium for brush cleaning.
The medium I use is one third Damar Varnish one third Linseed Oil one third Zest IT.
Brushes
ROSEMARY BRUSHES ROGER DELLAR BESPOKE SELECTION (Series 2 Shiraz Long Flat)
PALETTE KNIFE – Clean condition, metal (oblong or spade), not too small.
SHAPER
My preferred Ground to paint on
2.5 SBS Hardboard primed with acrylic gesso. Suggested zizes from 8”x10” – 12”x 16”.

TOWELLING RAG, SOLVENT CONTAINER
The materials listed are what I use and are only suggestions. I sometimes change things for interest.
