Bring on Spring NOW! - Landscape Watercolour
NIC COWPER is a self-trained artist. He was drawing from the age of eight and developed his passion for mark making through teenage years using oils, acrylics, pastels and pencils. Watercolour skills were honed sketching en plein air which became a lifelong obsession. It wasn’t till mid-life that Nic decided to make a go of it professionally and began exhibiting and teaching.
Despite a life of unguided experimentation and some success in all visual media including oils, acrylics, pastels, digital, charcoal and pencil, it is watercolour that really entices and challenges.
A brief outline of Nic Cowper’s workshop programme for the day:
In the Workshop Nic will guide students from colour mixing and wash types through to a full painting. We will see:
- Understanding your subject matter
- Identifying steps to take
- Experimentation and assessment
- Execution
- Analysis and review.
Nic will lead one guided painting then for the end of the workshop artists can work from their own source material and “have a go”
Materials and Equipment needed:
Watercolour paper. This needs to be of a high quality. 2 sheets @ 22 x 30 inches. Suggested brands: Saunders Waterford or Arches: 140lb, Cold Pressed surface
Paints: Nic can provide watercolour liquid paints from tubes for students at a cost of £2 per student (overall budget of £30). Students bringing their own should not rush out and buy a cheap set. Very bad paint is available and Nic will talk to students about how to buy.
Brushes: Not needed to be of a high quality but do need to be soft, with good spring.
A water container – old jam jar is fine
A mixing palette
Cover for your table.
N.B. Those who book for this event they will be sent Nic’s detailed a watercolour equipment list.
