Calligraphy - pointed pen

Claire trained for 3 years at Roehampton Digby Stuart and Froebel Colleges in Calligraphy, Lettering and simple bookbinding. Her course was run by leading professional calligraphers and included the study of heraldry, gilding, working with traditional tools and materials as well as exploring more contemporary expressive styles of writing.
On leaving Roehampton she set up her own freelance studio outside Farnham and was joined by her husband, letter carver James Honeywood. They relocated their studio to Haslemere where they are currently based. Claire has been teaching for Surrey Adult learning for over 25 years and run weekend workshops as well as weekly classes. She has undertaken private and commercial commissions over the years ranging from poems, wedding stationery and cards to film titles, strap lines and historical copies for TV and film.

Information about the day
Pointed Pen Script – An informal Copperplate
Using a pointed pen we will explore an informal interpretation of the elegant copperplate script, famous for its swelling ‘line of beauty’.
We will work through the lowercase alphabet in groups of related letterforms, progressing on to the uppercase letters and simple flourishes.
There are now many informal and ‘modern’ interpretations of this script and we will take a look at how to construct words with a little ‘swing’ and vitality.
