Justin Lees – Exhibition in Petersfield

Justin Lees is having an exhibition of paintings at Madeleines’ Kitchen, the lovely coffee shop at the back of One Tree Books in Petersfield.

‘My work is inspired by the beautiful landscape of the Meon Valley and surrounding area. I enjoy working in oil paint primarily and like to explore abstraction through distorted colour and texture. Influential artists include David Hockney and Georgia O’Keeffe whose recent exhibitions in London have been an inspiration to me. I like to build up colour through layers of paint and try to keep the work suggestive rather than explicit.’

On until 13th July, all work is for sale!

Painting with Chris Forsey – Workshop report from Kim Archer

On Saturday the 20th May, we had a full class of artists participating in a highly interactive and fascinating series of demos and practical painting using many different techniques under the tuition of Chris Forsey.

We painted ‘flat’, or with the canvas/board flat on a table so that all could observe the tutor while they worked which worked extremely well.

We had the opportunity of watching Chris demo stages of development of two paintings.  Chris uses and encourages free movement and creativity in his paintings and teaching.  We had some interesting moments trying not to get too much paint on the floor as one of the techniques included splattering the inks!  We used acrylics, acrylic paints and oil pastels.  All artists completed two paintings during the Workshop.  At the end of the day  Chris commented on each individual’s work, highlighting the great elements and offering suggestions for continued development.    A few pictures were taken so we could share the experience!!

Forest Landscape in Acrylics – David White

David will be giving a talk and demonstration on using Acrylics to portray the Forest Landscape.

David writes about his Journey As A Professional Artist:

“The last 9 months since Crufts 2016 have been a joyful journey of acrylic experimentation, from researching some real places like the Avon and Meadowlands of Salisbury and constructing a scene, to just using colour to lift one of my familiar places in the Rhinefield enclosure. I guess this was the year I immersed myself in painting and started to really understand how to meet the needs of the people I paint for.”
